What does the discount calculator calculate?

Enter an original price and a discount rate and it instantly tells you the final price after the discount and the amount saved. Conversely, you can enter an original price and a sale price to reverse-calculate the discount rate, or work out the real final price of a double discount applied twice in a row — handy for shopping and for setting sale prices.

How to use the discount calculator

  1. Choose a mode — pick 'By rate', 'By sale price', or 'Double discount'.
  2. Enter the values — type the original price and the discount rate (or sale price).
  3. Calculate — press the button and the final price, discount rate, and amount saved appear.

How is the discount rate calculated?

The discount rate (%) is (original price − sale price) ÷ original price × 100. For example, if a $200 item sells for $150, then (200 − 150) ÷ 200 × 100 = 25% off. The 'By sale price' mode computes this value automatically.

How does a double (successive) discount work?

Successive discounts are applied by multiplication, not by addition. A 30% discount followed by an extra 20% is not 50% but 0.7 × 0.8 = 0.56, i.e. a total of 44% off. The 'Double discount' mode calculates this real final price and total discount rate exactly.

Does it include VAT, coupons, or reward points?

No. This calculator deals purely with discount rates and prices. If you need VAT, use a separate VAT calculator, and when percentage and fixed-amount coupons are mixed it is more accurate to calculate each step separately.

Are the values I enter saved?

No. Every calculation happens entirely inside your browser and the values you enter are never sent to a server or stored. Refreshing the page clears the result, so note down anything you need to keep beforehand.
