What does adding PDF page numbers mean?

It means printing a page number — like 1, 2, 3… — at the top or bottom of every page in a PDF. It is handy when printing and binding several documents, or when pointing to a specific page in meeting materials, reports, or contracts.

How to add page numbers to a PDF

  1. Add a PDF — drag and drop the PDF you want to number, or click to open it.
  2. Set the format and position — choose the number format, position, start number, and font size.
  3. Apply and download — click "Add Page Numbers", then download the finished PDF.

Can I choose the number format and position?

Yes. You can choose a format such as 1, 1 / N, - 1 -, or Page 1, and set the position (center, left, or right at the bottom or top) and the font size. "1 / N" also shows the total page count.

Can I change the start number?

Yes. You can set the start number, so you can, for example, start the body at 1 without counting the cover, or continue numbering from where a previous document left off.

What happens to page numbers already in the document?

This tool draws the new numbers on top of the existing content. If the document already has printed numbers, they stay and the new ones appear alongside them, so it is best to adjust the position (e.g. bottom right) so they do not overlap.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Numbering happens entirely inside your browser, so your PDF is never sent to or stored on a server. You can safely process sensitive documents too. The processing library is downloaded just once on your first use and cached after that.
