What is a public IP?
This is the address assigned by your Internet Service Provider (ISP), and it identifies you uniquely across the entire internet. When you visit a website, the server uses this address to determine where the request was sent from. The IP address shown on this page is your public IP.
How do I check my IP?
- Open the page — when you land here, your current public IP is shown automatically at the top.
- Check the location — an approximate region based on your IP (city and ISP) is shown alongside it.
- Refresh — if your network has changed, click "Refresh" to update to your latest IP.
What is a private IP?
This is the address your home or office router hands out to internal devices (PCs, smartphones, etc.). It's only used within the same network and isn't visible from the outside internet. It's usually in the form 192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x, or 172.16.x.x–172.31.x.x.
What's the difference between a public and private IP?
A public IP is the single address that represents you on the internet, while a private IP distinguishes each device within your local network. Even when several devices in one home use different private IPs, they all reach the internet under the same public IP (NAT).
Can an IP reveal my exact location?
No. IP-based location is only a rough estimate at the city or ISP level — it doesn't reveal a precise address like your home. If you're on a mobile network or a VPN, it can differ greatly from your real location.
Can I hide my IP address?
Using a VPN or proxy server lets you replace the public IP a website sees with that server's IP, which masks your real IP. It does not, however, guarantee complete anonymity.
